SKRUM are very proud to have been selected as a World Rugby Spirit of Rugby partner for 2019/2020.
The Spirit of Rugby partnership enables SKRUM to introduce the Umbhoco weNgabisa / Rugby just for Women project offering school girls training sessions focussing on gender based violence awareness, female empowerment and personal hygiene. Alongside the classroom sessions SKRUM will hold basic rugby coaching sessions for the girls, reinforcing the gender equality message and encouraging them to play rugby without being intimidated by boys.
The rugby for social development programme is a key pillar of World Rugby’s commitment to a global, accessible and inclusive game and with their support the SKRUM coaches will run Teacher Training workshops and Youth Training workshops aimed at raising the number of female rugby coaches and trainers in schools in Eswatini.
SKRUM Founder and CEO Michael Collinson said: “World Rugby’s core values of Discipline, Respect, Integrity, Passion and Solidarity are behind everything we do at SKRUM. The Spirit of Rugby partnership supports our gender equality programme and helps in the fights against HIV/AIDS in Eswatini. It’s an honour to be part of this marvellous initiative using rugby for social development across the globe”.
